Inspire a love of reading from the start.
Teaching your child to read is one of the most exciting (and sometimes intimidating) parts of homeschooling. Over the years, I’ve discovered a few reading resources that truly made a difference for my early learners, and I’m excited to share them with you today.
1. Favorite Reading Programs
Reading.com – A structured, phonics-based platform that makes reading fun and interactive. Perfect for pre-K through 1st grade.

2. Books That Worked Wonders
Bob Books – These helped my kids build early confidence with short, decodable sentences.
The Action Bible – Not just for reading practice—it’s great for spiritual growth too.
3. Hands-On Tools
Letter magnets, tracing boards, and sandpaper letters
Fine motor activities like playdough letter stamping and chalk writing outdoors
4. Pintables & Freebies
Free alphabet coloring sheets
DIY letter scavenger hunt printout
Every child learns to read in their own way and time, but having the right tools makes the journey much more joyful. These resources have benefited my homeschool journey, and I hope they’ll encourage yours too.
